The Incredible Expanding Beer Drinking Squirrel
Joshua Tree Hiking/Camping/Night Sky Photography Event
June 12-14, 2015

On our second day of camping, a squirrel made its way into our camp in search of water.

It came across one of our hanging trash-bags of recyclables.

This particular bag was used for the beer bottles.

Apparently some of the bottles still held some beer which gathered at the botto...

Scouting Joshua Tree National Park - StarDude Astronomy

Black Rock Campground

May 16-17, 2015

This event was different from my usual events in that I had the honor of being invited by a local Cub Scout pack (Den 9, Pack 766) to join them on a camping trip up to Joshua Tree National Park and be their guide to the night sky! I was more than happy to accept.

I packed all my gear into B.O.B. (Big Orange...

Hey everyone! My friend Debra Christofferson asked me a great question about color and images of space.

Where does the color in these photos come from?

Are they caused by the way our camera pick up the light? Is there color in space?

Actually there is color in space. To answer your question we need to cover what "color" is. What the human eye perceives as color is merely the excitation of certain...

Last night's Full Moon event was awesome!!

Thank you all for coming! It was great to see so many familiar faces, as well as meet and make new friends! Thank you Diana for the coffee, much appreciated by all!

The Moon looked great last night. A few clouds scrolled by but nothing to worry about. If anything, it helped to teach the use of shutter speed. Otherwise seeing was perfect! We all captured s...

About midafternoon on Friday, 4/17, the group met up and headed out on our journey up Palomar Mountain to the Observatory Campground. Upon arrival, we set up our tents and camping gear. With time left to spare we thought we would try our luck and see if we could go up to visit the Observatory. The public entrance was closed, but the "Authorized Personal Only" gate wa...

Since January of this year, I have been hosting Full Moon viewing and photography events. They have all been very fun and allowed me the chance to meet some awesome people and share with them some astronomy knowledge, photography knowledge and the chance to take some up close images of the full moon through my Stellarvue SV105 Telescope.

April 3/4th's full Moon was a special one in that it was a...
