Full Camp Description:

Joshua Tree National Park, viewed from the road, only hints at its vitality. Closer examination reveals a fascinating variety of plants and animals that make their home in this land. Dark night skies, a rich cultural history, and surreal geologic features add to the attraction of this place.

These features are what first attracted to me camp there. My first successful stargazing session occurred there during the 2012 Thanksgiving weekend. It was the event that I consider to be the moment when I transitioned from an enthusiast to Landscape & Astro-photographer.

Be part of this awesome event as we take a look at night sky objects like Jupiter, the Orion Nebula, the Whirlpool Galaxy and even the planet Saturn!!

Time to take your DSLR off the automatic setting! Together we will be going over the exposure triangle and how to use these setting to best capture the night sky.

Next, members will try out their hand in Astrophotography by directly attaching their DSLR camera to a 4" Stellarvue Refracting Telescope. Together we will capture amazing images of Deep Sky Objects (DSO's) in the night sky!

Have an object of interest you would like to capture? Let's do it!

Important Notes:

Because of the limit of cars for the campsite we will need to carpool. Those with bigger vehicles that can accommodate more people are kindly asked to help. Thank you!

During the summer, expect high temperatures, intense sunlight, and low humidity. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration in the arid desert environment. Drink at least one gallon (4 liters) of water per day to replace loss from sweat.
